USS San Antonio departs Norfolk to pursue war department priorities and stop illegal drug trafficking

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The USS San Antonio (LPD 17) left Norfolk on June 29 in support of U.S. Southern Command mission requirements, according to the Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet with the U.S. Navy.

They will be participating in the Department of War directed operations after recently deploying to the U.S. 4th Fleet operations zone and supporting President Donald Trump’s priorities to stop illegal drug trafficking and protect the homeland.

“The sailors and Marines aboard USS San Antonio continue to demonstrate impressive professionalism, adaptability and operational readiness,” said Captain Thomas Uhl, commanding officer. “This crew remains ready to answer our nation’s call wherever and whenever needed. I could not be prouder of the resilience and commitment displayed by this team and our families.”…
