Man arrested after multi-jurisdiction chase also faces assault charges tied to Virginia Beach veterinary hospital

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A man arrested following a multi-jurisdiction police chase across the Peninsula is also facing separate assault charges stemming from an incident at a Virginia Beach veterinary hospital.

Virginia State Police arrested 39-year-old Billy Gerard on July 7 following a pursuit that began in Newport News and continued through Poquoson and York County. He faces multiple charges from state police, including felony evading, two counts of felony hit and run, assault and battery against a law enforcement officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, improper passing on the shoulder, no insurance, reckless driving by speed and reckless driving general.

According to Newport News police, the chase began after officers responded to a destruction of property complaint. Investigators say they identified Gerard as the suspect and located him driving a stolen vehicle…
