NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Because We Care II aims to help adults dealing with the wrong path in life, whether it be substance abuse or a life of crime, and its newest program director knows that life all too well.
“All humans want three things,” Ahmad Shy said. “Everybody wants security, everybody wants sustenance and everybody wants good health.”
10 On Your Side first introduced you to Shy a few weeks ago, eight years to the day after his brother San Juan was shot and killed in Norfolk. Shy was incarcerated at the time, and, for a period of time, he and his brother had lived “the street life,” as he calls it.

Since getting released from jail, Shy turned his own life around, and he is now helping others do the same. Pursuing a career in social work, he started working at Because We Care II in Norfolk…
