NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk woman was sentenced to one year in prison after a dead pit bull and a severely malnourished one were found inside her apartment.
On Oct. 23, 2024, a maintenance worker at Oakmont North Apartments noticed a rotten odor and many flies coming from an apartment. Two emaciated dogs could be seen through a window shut inside a room covered in filth with one of the dogs appearing to be dead, according to court documents. He proceeded to call the Norfolk Police Animal Protection Unit for a well-being check.
A humane officer then arrived and confirmed a male pit bull mix was deceased and in an advanced stage of decomposition. A female pit bull was severely malnourished, sick and covered in sores.
