NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Prosecutors will begin presenting evidence Friday in the murder trial of Carlos Johnson Jr. in the deaths of his infant daughter Chloe and her mother Keir Johnson, even though mother and daughter were never found.
In the past four years, the Commonwealth has secured murder convictions in three high-profile cases in which the victims were never located: Codi Bigsby in Hampton, Shanita Eure-Lewis in Newport News, and Bellamy Gamboa in Virginia Beach.
Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorney Anton Bell led the prosecution of Cory Bigsby for the death of his son Codi, 3. Bigsby would write in a jailhouse letter that he beat the child to death, but Bell said that was just corroboration of other evidence investigators uncovered and prosecutors presented to the jury.
