NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — U.S. Customs and Border Protections seized imported dehumidifiers and automotive radiators in Norfolk on Aug. 25, that were imported using fraudulent identities.
Both shipments arrived in mid-August after coming from China. They were inspected by CBP officers, who detected discrepancies in the importation and identification documents. Officers detained the shipments and sought additional documentation and identification from the brokers.
The first shipment contained 1,043 automotive radiators was destined for Cheyenne, Wyoming and the second shipment contained 420 high-capacity 70-pint dehumidifiers, which were destined for Artesia, California. The radiators had a declared value of $5,775 and dehumidifiers had a declared value of $10,080.
After being contacted by CBP officers for records of each shipment, the importers denied ordering the commercial goods or operating a business that imports commercial goods. Officers determined that both individuals were subjects of identity fraud…
