NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Howard Patrick Randle II, 35, was found not guilty by reason of insanity after stabbing his mother during a mental health crisis in 2025.
On April 19, officers were called to the 6200 block of Colgate Avenue in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, police located a 57-year-old woman suffering from multiple wounds. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. As a result, police arrested Randle and charged him with malicious wounding and domestic assault.

Documents revealed that the victim was Randle’s mother.
According to commonwealth’s attorney, Randle entered his mother’s room and during a conversation, he became angry and began stabbing her in the arm. Randle’s mother was able to escape the residence and collapsed in the street, where Norfolk Police officers later found her bleeding. She disclosed to police that Randle had a history of mental illness and that she believed he did not know who she was at the time of the incident…
