Today we will have some rain and wind developing over the region, but it will really pick up over the next 24-36 hours.
There is a front that has stalled out just a little to our north. It did briefly pop to the north last night. Now it will sink to the south as we go through the day.
There is an area of low pressure that is offshore. It is weak right now, and it is rolling slowly to the northeast. however, this will be a big factor in our forecast over the next few days. As it moves northeast and strengthens, it will start to force our regional winds out of the north/northeast. This will help to drag the cool front south today. Meanwhile high pressure will hold its ground to the north. This will set us up for a long-duration northeasterly wind.
As the front sinks south today it will develop some scattered showers and a few storms. A few have already formed north of the metro this morning. These will sink to the south with the front today.
Meanwhile, wind gusts will increase to 25mph out of the northeast.
Wind gusts to 25mph are not too bad. It will basically just be a little breezy later today. There may be a few gusts to 30mph by the evening. Temps will be held down in the upper 70s to low 80s with much cooler temps to our north.
By tomorrow the low will be strengthening offshore. We’ll have winds gusting to 30mph most of the day with some gusts to 35mph.
Wind gusts to 40mph will be possible over the Outer Banks for a brief time.
We’ll be cloudy with on and off rain showers through the day.
While I think the coverage will be fairly high, the intensity probably will be light for most areas. There will probably be a lot of drizzle along with the scattered rain showers. It will feel heavy though with the strong wind coming in off of the ocean…
