Police Show Car Under 17 Feet of Water After It Drove Off Virginia Pier, Waves Too ‘Dangerous’ for Divers

The vehicle is on its roof and considered unstable after it sped off the 14th Street Fishing Pier in Virginia Beach, officials said

Few details have been revealed about the circumstances of an unidentified car that drove off a pier in Virginia Beach on Saturday.

But police have released a photo of the submerged vehicle.

Shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday, a car crashed through the metal entrance and sped off of the 14th Street Fishing Pier at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

Two responding officers used side-scan sonar and located the vehicle in front of the pier.

It is on its roof and considered unstable, officials said according to TV station WAVY .

The area is 17-feet deep during high tide.
