Pungo Strawberry Festival remains on a hiatus; canceled for 5th year

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – For the fifth year in a row, there will not be a Pungo Strawberry Festival.

Pungo Strawberry Festival cancelled for 4th straight year

The festival, which started back in 1983, is typically held over Memorial Day weekend and hosted multiple vendors, raffles and carnival rides.

The board of directors released in a Facebook post that the Strawberry Festival will be on hiatus until they can find a new team and venue.

The board of directors of the Pungo Strawberry Festival sadly announce there will be no festival in 2024. We are on a hiatus until we can assemble a new team and a suitable venue avails itself. We have been a casualty of our own success, and we are proud to have organized 36 years of a beloved, legacy festival in downtown Pungo with the support of the community and the city.

The last festival was held in 2019 and was attended by about 100,000 people.
