Marciano Bibbins-Hamlin, an 18-year-old from Norfolk, Virginia, was convicted for carrying a concealed firearm and possessing an illegal trigger activator. This conviction came after a traffic stop on September 1 last year. Norfolk Police officers stopped a vehicle near Church Street and B Avenue. Bibbins-Hamlin was one of five people in the car, some of whom the officers recognized from past encounters.
When the officers asked the occupants to leave the car, they saw a firearm. A search revealed a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun with a trigger activator where Bibbins-Hamlin had been sitting. This device allows the firing of multiple rounds with one trigger pull. Bibbins-Hamlin had a matching magazine loaded with 9mm ammunition. The officers also found an assault rifle-style pistol with an angled foregrip in the car.
Bibbins-Hamlin admitted to owning the AR-style pistol but denied owning the Glock. Regardless, he was convicted of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing a trigger activator. Judge Mary Jane Hall delivered the conviction.
