Person arrested, dog shot, in SWAT situation at Hampton apartments

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — SWAT officers took at least one person into custody after responding to the Langley Square apartments in Hampton Thursday morning.

Markies Lamar Parks, 30, of Newport News was arrested. Hampton Police Division’s SWAT team conducted a high-risk search warrant in the 100 block of Doolittle Road.

When officers tried entering the apartment, an aggressive pitbull attacked two SWAT officers before running back inside and attacking a female resident. The officers first fired non-lethal rounds at the dog, but when that didn’t work, they shot the canine.

The female and an officer were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Parks was arrested on six active felony warrants including: one count of possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, one count of possession of a firearm by convicted felon and four counts of manufacture, sale, possession of controlled substance.

Residents there said they have never seen activity like this in the area, but hope their community is safer.
