Virginia Beach, York Co. schools recognized for high performance

The Virginia Board of Education recognized 64 schools across the state Thursday for their high achievement and continued improvement, which included a dozen Hampton Roads schools.

Thirty-seven schools earned the Highest Achievement Award, including five Virginia Beach schools and one York County school.

In Virginia Beach, Green Run Collegiate, Kingston Elementary, North Landing Elementary, Old Donation Schoo and Rosemont Forest Elementary were all recognized. In York County, Seaford Elementary was also named.

Twenty-seven schools earned the Continuous Improvement Award, which included one Chesapeake school, one Hampton school, one Norfolk school, two Virginia Beach schools and one York County school.

On the list for Chesapeake was Norfolk Highlands Primary. Phoebus High School was named for Hampton. St. Helena Elementary was recognized for Norfolk. Green Run High and Tallwood High were named for Virginia Beach. York River Academy was recognized for York County.

The 64 schools were recognized as part of the Exemplar School Recognition Program. The awards recognize schools that exceed board-established performance requirements or show continuous improvement on academic and school quality indicators.
