Man arrested in Chesapeake after vehicle pursuit on US 168

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – A man accused of stealing a Jeep out of Currituck County was arrested in Chesapeake Sunday night, police said.

According to officials, there were reports of a stolen vehicle in progress around 11 p.m. in the Laurel Woods subdivision of Currituck. Deputies said a Jeep was stolen from the area.

A deputy with the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office was able to locate the stolen vehicle on US 168 in Moyock headed towards Chesapeake.

The deputy initiated a pursuit into Chesapeake, when the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Elijah Drew, lost control of the Jeep and crashed past the toll plaza. Drew then attempted to flee on foot.

Shortly afterwards, Drew was located in a field and apprehended with assistance from the Chesapeake Police Department.

Drew is currently being held at the Chesapeake City Jail awaiting extradition, according to the sheriff’s office.
