Woman apprehended following police pursuit near Gilmerton Bridge

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with a vehicle pursuit near the Gilmerton Bridge.

According to officials, an officer with the Chesapeake Police Department attempted a traffic stop around 12:16 p.m. on Military Highway near Michael Drive because the license plate did not belong to the vehicle.

The vehicle did not stop, leading to an 18-minute pursuit.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 44-year-old Crystal Jones, drove over spike strips deployed by officers and stopped on Military Highway near the Gilmerton Bridge.

Jones was then taken into custody and charged with two counts of possession of a schedule I or II drug, resisting arrest and disregarding police command to stop.

One WAVY 10 viewer sent video of the pursuit, showing Jones driving over the spikes.
