Chesapeake’s Grant Holloway easily advanced to the semifinals of the 110-meter hurdles at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday.
Holloway, a Grassfield High graduate, had little trouble as he won his heat in 13.01 seconds, the fastest time of the day. Rachid Murtake of Japan had the second-fastest time of the day at 13.22.
Holloway, who was named co-captain of the USA team, was a silver medalist three years ago at the Tokyo Olympics and has the second-fastest time in history at the event at 12.81 seconds.
American Daniel Roberts also qualified, but teammate Freddie Crittenden failed to qualify in the first-round heats. Crittenden will compete in the new repechage round, which allows a second chance for sprinters and hurdlers.
The repechage round is Tuesday, followed by the semifinals Wednesday and the final Thursday.
