Chesapeake’s Grant Holloway moves one step closer to Olympic gold

Chesapeake’s Grant Holloway advanced to the final of the 110-meter hurdles on Wednesday at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Grassfield High grad ran 12.98 — the fastest time of the day — to win his semifinal heat. It was the 10th time that Holloway has run under 13 seconds in this event, including two of the four fastest times ever.

In his heat was Jamaica’s Hansle Parchment, who denied Holloway the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. But Parchment was no match for Holloway, who got out fast and was never pressed. Spain’s Enrique Llopis was runner-up in the heat at 13.17 and Parchment was third in 13.19. Both advanced to Thursday’s final, which will be held at 3:45 p.m. Eastern on WAVY.

Americans Freddie Crittenden and Daniel Roberts, who both finished runner-up in their heats, also qualified for the final.

Jamaica’s Orlando Bennett had the second-fastest time of the day as he ran a personal-best 13.09 to edge Roberts, who ran 13.10.

Crittenden ran 13.23 to finish runner-up to Jamaica’s Rasheed Broadbell’s 13.21.
