Portsmouth teacher chosen for Amazon Future Engineer Ambassador Program

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A Portsmouth teacher has been chosen for the Amazon Future Engineer Teacher Ambassador Program.

Cindy Degnan, a computer science teacher at Deep Creek Elementary and Indian River Middle School, is one of 50 educators nationwide that will participate in the two-year, paid fellowship.

Amazon’s Future Engineer program aims to increase equitable access to high-quality computer science education for children and young adults.

According an Amazon spokesperson, Degnan was selected based on her outstanding expertise in computer science and steadfast commitment to providing equitable access to computer science education.

I am completing my 24th year in public education, and I would say that my father is responsible for my love of computer science and technology,” said Cindy Degnan. “I hope to instill in my students the same love for technology that my father instilled in me.  I want them to see how technology will be an important part of any job they hold in the future.”
