Deep Creek Bridge to close to traffic for urgent repairs

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – This weekend, there will be a closure of the Deep Creek Bridge in Chesapeake. This is separate from the ongoing replacement project. Sunday’s closure is to complete emergency repairs.

There will be a detour at the bridge in both directions on Aug. 18 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is closing the bridge because a recent inspection showed some corrosion on the bridge, on the support beams.

The current bridge is 90 years old. The fix that they’re making isn’t part of the ongoing construction that’s already happening in the area. It’s just something that they noticed during their two year evaluation of the bridge. In 2022, they didn’t see any issues, but this time they did.

USACE said the bridge remains safe for traffic to cross until the repairs are made.

There will be posted signage indicating detours, during the closure. Please note, this work is weather dependent.
