Virginia Costco workers vote to unionize, first store to join Teamsters in 20 years, union says

Costco workers in Norfolk, Virginia, have overwhelmingly voted to join the Teamsters national contract, securing significant job and retirement protections under the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Plan, the union announced.

This marks the first collective bargaining agreement for nearly 300 workers at the Norfolk location, who joined Teamsters Local 822 in December, making it the first organizing victory at the wholesale retailer in over 20 years, according to the union.

Torrey Felton, a forklift driver and Local 822 member, expressed excitement about the strong Teamsters contract, highlighting the job security and life-changing pension benefits it provides.

James Wright, President of Local 822, praised the powerful contract and emphasized the commitment to enforcing its protections. As national contract negotiations for over 18,000 Costco Teamsters begin next week, the Norfolk agreement is expected to set a strong standard for Costco workers nationwide.
