Matt Gallina was a firefighter for 20 years. WAVY reported on Gallina back in October 2023 and May 2024 after sharing stories on the health risks firefighters face in their field.

In October 2023, WAVY reported on the chemotherapy Gallina was undergoing and fundraisers aimed at helping him and his family with the costs.

According to updates on the GoFundMe started back in September of 2023, Gallina’s health took a turn for the worst in August.
