Suspect in serial burglaries to Ocean View business is now in custody

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Detectives have arrested and charged a man they believe is connected to a string of burglaries in the Ocean View area, police said.

Since Sept. 13, police have been called to eight businesses in the Ocean View area for reports of commercial burglary alarms. Officers arrived to find that the businesses had been broken into, and items were missing.

In previous coverage, WAVY reported that the suspect entered one of the businesses, a Subway, by cutting through the roof.

As a result of their investigation, detectives have charged Jose Rodriguez Chavez, 33, with eight counts of burglary and two counts of petit larceny.

Additional charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Rodriguez Chavez was taken into custody on Sept. 25 by Hampton Police, and he is currently being held in the Hampton City Jail without bond.
