NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Hampton City Schools student won a $16,000 scholarship to Christopher Newport University (CNU) as part of Next Generation Storytellers Film Festival.
The festival took place at CNU from Oct. 18 through Oct. 20, and featured films from 13 high school students across Hampton Roads and Charleston, South Carolina.
The winner of the $16,000 scholarship, Antonio Pitts, said he plans on enrolling.

- Best Supporting Actor : Sophia Harris (Chain Shot — HCS) and Matthew Vrooman (The Sanguine Teens Solution — NNPS)
- Best Picture : Untitled Artist ( Aiden Montes-Rodriguez , Lead actor — NNPS)
- Best Director : Sharyea Phillips (From the Moon to Her Sun — NNPS)
- Best Original Screenplay : Nolan Ladison (Omelette Sunday — HCS)
- Best Comedy : Omelette Sunday ( Antonio Pitts and Josh Cunnison , Actors — HCS)
- Best Drama : Until Daylight Comes ( Madysen Doughtery , Director — HCS)
- Best Suspense : The Flip Side ( Gabriella Cartwright and Mark Sierra , Lead Actors — NNPS)
- Portrait of a Graduate : Ava Borrelli (Fire of the Heart — CCSD)
- Community Showcase : Fire of the Heart ( Hanahan Fire Department , Vanessa Brown accepting — CCSD)
- Best Community Actor : Tracy Bourne (Until Daylight Comes — HCS, teacher from Kecougthan High School)
- Young Voices : From the Moon to Her Sun ( Lilly Thompson , Writer — NNPS)
