PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A 22-year-old woman from Portsmouth has been missing for about two months.
Autumn Shelton was last seen on River Mill Circle, a street where residents usually feel safe.
“It’s a good place to live, it’s quiet,” said Travis Godwin Sr.
Godwin has lived in this neighborhood for years, and said the area usually doesn’t have problems.
“Neighborhood is nice — quiet, laid back,” Godwin said. “We don’t have a problem around here.”
Portsmouth Police are searching for Shelton, who’s been missing since Aug. 31. Shelton is a Black woman, with black hair, brown eyes and normally wears glasses. Police say she is about 5-foot-1 and weighs between 160 and 165 pounds.
10 On Your Side asked neighbors does an incident come as a surprise.
“Yes, it does, especially in this area, because like I say and I know you’ll hear it all the time, but nothing ever happens around here,” Godwin said.
“It’s very seldom that you see any police cars or anything through this area, other than riding through,” Godwin said. “But other than that, we have no problems.”
