Phoebus beats Warwick 27-17 in dramatic fashion, securing Peninsula District championship and 45th consecutive win

HAMPTON (WAVY) – Down 17-14 to Warwick with under five minutes to play in the game, Phoebus’ 44 game win-streak was on the line Saturday. Maurikus Banks wasn’t going to allow his Phantoms to lose their first game since November of 2021. Facing a 4th and 8, Banks threw a moon ball to Romeir Smith, who caught the tipped pass to convert. A few plays later, Banks hit Junior wide receiver Mhakyi Hill for a nine yard go-ahead touchdown that made it 21-17.

When the Raiders took over on the ensuing drive, Trenton Mitchell had a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown that put the game away, sealing another Peninsula District Championship for Phoebus along with its 45th consecutive win.
