PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Saturday was the last day for early voting in Virginia, with many coming out to cast their ballots.
People were at the polls waiting in a line in Portsmouth to take advantage of the last day for early voting; many were surprised by the line.
“I thought I was doing something big on Saturday, and I was getting ahead of the crowd,” said voter Tyran Green.
A lot of voters who were waiting said they were voting early because they were going to be busy on Election Day and wanted to make sure they got the chance to cast their ballot.
“I have to work Tuesday morning, so actually, I’m off today, so I prefer to come out here today, stand in line and actually vote because voting does matter,” said voter Kendra Washington.
One campaigner told 10 On Your Side the longest line was at 9 a.m. this morning with people lining up at 8 a.m.
“It’s very important for me to exercise my right to vote because others before me died trying to cast a vote. So I feel like my vote counts and it will make a difference, win or lose,“ said Green.
