Long-term on-ramp closure to occur on I-64 in Hampton Roads

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — As construction on the Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) project continues, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are scheduled to implement another long-term on-ramp closure beginning on Nov. 3.

The ramp closure, which is expected to last for about a year, will be from southbound LaSalle Avenue to I-64.

VDOT said the closure will allow for the demolition and reconstruction of the I-64 bridges over LaSalle Avenue to accommodate the new on-ramp and bridge heights being raised to meet current design standards.

Signed detours will be in place to advise drivers traveling southbound on LaSalle Avenue to follow Mercury Boulevard to the I-64 east on ramp.

Motorists traveling on North Armistead Avenue are urged to follow the detour signs to LaSalle Avenue, West Pembroke Avenue, Power Plant Parkway and I-664 north to access I-64 east.
