Influx of Hampton University voters makes for long lines at Phoebus HS poll site

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — An influx of Hampton University students voting Tuesday meant long lines at the Phoebus High School polling site.

“For me, it was cool because I got here early … and there was no line,” one Hampton University student said, “and I could vote very easily.”

However, that same student said he had been campaigning for local races earlier in the day and saw long lines.

Another Hampton University student said he appreciated same-day registration.

“You could just sign up so easily,” he said. “All you needed to know was your social security number and your address. It was just such a quick process. All I needed was my ID, and it took 10 minutes to vote.

Yet another Hampton University student said she had been sad, initially, because she didn’t think she would be able to vote because she was registered to vote in New York, “but being able to come to the polls and get my sticker and do it with my friends was an amazing experience.”
