Teen injured in shooting caused by an argument over a parking spot, police say

A 17-year-old is in the hospital following a shooting Friday afternoon in Portsmouth, according to police.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m. in the 4000 block of River Shore Road, police say.

“Officers found a 17-year-old male, a juvenile, shot in his extremities,” Portsmouth Police Department Spokesperson Elexcia Washington said.

The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment with what Washington said were non-life threatening injuries.

“Additional units did arrive on scene to investigate the shooting. upon their investigation, they discovered that this was the result of an argument over a handicap parking space,” Washington explained.

Police say an argument over a parking space led to the shooting.

The shooting happened not far from Churchland High School. Police emphasized that it did not happen on school grounds.
