CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Since 1993, THE RW Towne Foundation has been providing Thanksgiving meals to families in need. Beginning with just 25 meal baskets to offer, the foundation has grown exponentially, providing over 31,000 baskets throughout the years.
On Thursday, the foundation aims to support 3,500 families across Southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina at its Annual Turkey Brigade.
Each basket handed out is designed to feed a family of six and includes a turkey, cans of peas, corn, green beans, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, a bag of potatoes, a bag of apples, and an aluminum cooking tray for the turkey, all packaged in a reusable shopping bag.
The food pantry will be held at RW Towne Realty Corporate on 1435 Crossways Boulevard in Chesapeake. It will be from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The foundation will be accepting donations until Dec. 10, 2024. Contributions can be made by sending checks, made payable to the RW Towne Foundation and marked “Turkey Brigade,” to 1435 Crossways Boulevard, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
