Chesapeake house fire displaces three adults

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Three adults are displaced following a house fire in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, according to the Chesapeake Fire Department.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 1900 block of Gatewood Court after a report by a neighbor of heavy smoke coming from the roof of the residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters deployed multiple hose lines, entered the residence, quickly located the fire and extinguished it by 5:10 p.m.

One person was home during the fire but evacuated before units arrived on scene with the aid of nearby residents. The person was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Residents are handling their own lodging arrangements.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
