PPD: 71-year-old man found guilty in 2022 fatal shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A 71-year-old man was found guilty on Monday in connection to the fatal shooting of a woman in February of 2022.

According to officials, a jury found Irving Wolff guilty of voluntary manslaughter and shooting in commission of a felony in the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Crystal Jacobs.

On Feb. 28, 2022, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Florida Avenue around 10 p.m. for reports of a possible homicide.

Officers arrived to the scene and found Jacobs on the floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents state that Wolff told police he was asked by Jacobs to withdraw money so that she could buy drugs, but that he refused. Jacobs then became agitated and attacked him, leading to Wolff fatally shooting her.

Wolff’s sentencing has not yet been scheduled, but is expected to take place within the coming weeks, according to Portsmouth Police.
