PPD seeking information to help solve 2023 homicide of 17-year-old boy

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The Portsmouth Police Department is asking the public for assistance in solving a 2023 homicide of a 17-year-old boy.

According to officials, on Feb. 11, 2023 just after 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of Cedar Lane for reports of a gunshot wound.

Officers arrived to the scene and found 17-year-old Jordan Harris Snipes, a senior at Lake Taylor High school, with a fatal gunshot wound. Police said Snipes was attending a party in the area.

At the time of the incident, 10 On Your Side spoke with Snipes’ father, who described hearing the frantic efforts of people attempting to save his sons life after someone called him from the crime scene.

Snipes died the following day, surrounded by family at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

“He wanted to be a park ranger and a veterinarian,” his father said. “He was just about to graduate from high school. They took someone who was a special boy – a young man.”
