VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Lalisha Fitchett, an English teacher at Brandon Middle School, was selected out of 87 teachers as a recipient of the 2026 Virginia Beach City Public Schools Citywide Teacher of the Year.
Superintendent Dr. Donald E. Robertson Jr. made a surprise visit to Brandon Middle Thursday to congratulate her on the achievement.
“Ms. Fitchett’s unwavering dedication to her students makes her a true champion for our school division and community,” Robertson said. “Her positive attitude inspires her students and fellow teachers. We’re fortunate to have her on our VBCPS team.”
Brandon Middle principal Kenneth Vaughan described Fitchett as a “team player who adapts instructional practices to meet the diverse needs of students.”
“Her ability to build strong connections with students, regardless of age or subject matter, is a testament to her passion for education and her genuine care for student success,” Vaughan said.
