Prime real estate: Virginia Beach looks for buyer for Oceanfront lot

VIRGINIA BEACH — A prime piece of real estate on a highly visible Oceanfront corner is for sale. The property at 333 Laskin Road is owned by the city and sits a few blocks from the beach.

It was purchased as part of the $40 million Laskin Road Gateway improvement project in 2011. A Papa Johns pizza shop has occupied an aging one-story building on the site for years.

The city is requesting proposals for the sale of the land but will continue to own some footage for right-of-way purposes along the intersections of Arctic Avenue and 30½ Street. The pizza building will be demolished in 2025.

A sale price has not been disclosed.

“There is not a set price, rather, respondents are required to propose a purchase price for the City’s consideration,” a city spokesperson said this week.

The land is assessed at $1.5 million and covers roughly one-third of an acre. It’s adjacent to a strip of retail shops and is in the heart of a up-and-coming food-centric district — The Artery — which was recently recognized by the city, enabling signage and grant opportunities.
