Resident and cat displaced after house fire in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — An adult and cat are displaced after a house fire in the Bowers Hill section of Chesapeake.

On Wednesday, firefighters were dispatched to the 4000 block of Pierce Lane at approximately 2:35 p.m. in reference to a fire in a chimney.

Upon arrival, crews found light smoke coming from the roofline near the chimney of the structure. They deployed hoselines and were able to contain the fire to the affected roofline.

The fire was controlled at around 2:50 p.m.

There were no injuries reported. The resident evacuated the structure before crews arrived on the scene, and the cat was eventually located, unharmed.

The resident has made lodging arrangements with family.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
