CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — After a devastating house fire in Chesapeake, the Harmon family is welcoming themselves home before the new year. Just 14 months ago, they woke up to a nightmare.
“It was approximately about 1:30 in the morning, and our oldest child, our daughter… she says she saw an orange blaze outside the window,” explained Kimberly Harmon. “She ran to our bedroom to wake us to tell us that the house was on fire. What I saw was the fire being rolled up into a ball and placed on to the house.”
According to officials, the report of a shed fire came in around 1:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of Woodbaugh Drive, in the Western Branch area of Chesapeake.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home and two sheds in the backyard. All three structures sustained significant damage due to the fire.
Within minutes, Kimberly and Travis Harmon said their lives were turned inside out. Family photos and their home of nearly 20 years had turned to ash. At the time, firefighters were still working to learn what had started the fire.
