Largest single meth seizure in VBPD history

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A joint investigation resulted in the seizure of 156 pounds of methamphetamine during a vehicle search in Virginia Beach.

According to a news release from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD), this is the largest single methamphetamine seizure in the department’s history.

On Nov. 7, VBPD officers working with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents approached 54-year-old Alonzo Harden Jr., of St. Paul, Minnesota. Narcotics Detection Canine Luna detected the presence of illegal narcotics in the suspect’s vehicle, which was parked in the 4400 block of Bonney Road.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two large bags in the trunk, which police say contained approximately 156 pounds of methamphetamine. That has an estimated street value of $350,000.

Harden Jr. was arrested on the following charges:

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine (3rd offense)
  • Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Concealed Firearm
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm While in Possession of a Schedule I/II Substance
  • Transporting a Schedule I/II Substance with Intent to Distribute into the Commonwealth
