One person is in critical condition following a house fire in Portsmouth Saturday morning, according to the Portsmouth Fire Department.
The fire broke out around 6 a.m. in the 700 block of Broad Street, right next to Fire Station 4. Crews quickly entered the home to rescue a man and a woman.
Medical crews arrived promptly to transport both civilians to Norfolk General.

Investigators determined that smoking materials came into contact with home furnishings, causing the fire.
It is currently unclear which individual is in critical condition or how many people have been displaced.
