NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A man was sentenced to one year in prison for eluding police in a stolen car.
According to officials, on Sept. 7 around 8 p.m., a man called Norfolk Police to report his rental car, which he had left running at the corner of 35th Street and Colley Avenue, was stolen.
The following day around 2 p.m., an officer saw the stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on Brambleton Avenue and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
Police said the driver, 33-year-old Andre Joseph Taylor, refused to stop, ultimately leading to a pursuit through a residential area at speeds up to 55 mph. During the pursuit, Taylor also drove the wrong way down a one-way street before eventually rolling into a shed on Reservoir Crescent.
As a result, Taylor was charged with felony eluding and grand theft of an automobile.
On Tuesday, Taylor pled guilty to the charge of felony eluding and agreed to serve one year in prison with another year suspended on the condition he be of uniform good behavior. Taylor must also have his driver’s license revoked for one year after his release.
