Man accused of accepting bribe as assistant director of Newport News facility

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A man has been charged with accepting a bribe as a public official, according to court documents.

Marlon Jones Jr., the former assistant director of James River Residential Reentry Center, faces one felony count. The facility in Newport News serves as a halfway house with 120 beds.

Jones, a Portsmouth resident, is charged with directly or indirectly accepting or agreeing to accept something of value in return for being influenced in the performance of an official act. Court documents state Jones accepted a bribe around Sept. 24, 2021…
