PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – As expected, many local school districts closely watching the winter weather forecast this week have decided to close school buildings and offices.

The latest forecast shows the snowfall beginning in the Hampton Roads viewing area by the late morning Wednesday. Snow is expected to be heavy at times. According to the Super Doppler 10 Weather Team, a large part of the region will see 5-8″ of snow, with a few spots getting as much as 11″ by Thursday evening.
In addition to schools, many city services and businesses have already announced closures.

The following school districts have announced adjustments to this week’s schedule so far:
Chesapeake Public Schools
- All Chesapeake Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025. Students and school-based staff will not report to school. All after-school activities, including athletic practices.
Dare County Schools
- Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025, will be a Remote Learning Day for all Dare County Schools.
Edenton-Chowan Schools
- Remote learning day for students and staff Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools
- Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools announced a remote learning day for both Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20.
Gates County Public Schools
- Remote learning day for students and staff Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20. New Beginning Daycare will be closed.
Gloucester
- Gloucester County Public Schools announced these adjustments to the schedule this week: Wednesday, Feb. 19-Snow Day (Schools Closed-No school for students or staff), Thursday, Feb. 20 and Friday, Feb. 21 – Remote Learning Days. To make up in-person instructional time, March 27 and May 2 have been converted to full student days.
Hampton Public Schools
- Hampton Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 19. Remote learning/work day for students and staff.
Hampton University
- Hampton University will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20. Essential personnel only report.
Isle of Wight County Schools
- All Isle of Wight County Schools and Offices will be closed for all students and staff on Wednesday, Feb. 19. All school activities and events are also canceled. Teachers shared work with students Tuesday to be completed should IWCS remain closed for an extended period of time.
Norfolk Public Schools
- Norfolk Public Schools will close for in-person learning on Wednesday, Feb. 19. NPS staff members are expected to work remotely in accordance with direction provided by school-level/departmental supervisors. All students will transition to remote learning.
Northampton (NC) County Schools
- Remote learning day on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Ocean View Christian Academy & Childcare
- Ocean View Christian Academy & Childcare will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Perquimans County Public Schools
- Perquimans County Public Schools in Hertford announced an optional workday for Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Portsmouth Christian Schools
- Portsmouth Christian Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Portsmouth Public Schools
- All schools and administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 19. It will be a Remote Learning Day for students.
St. Gregory the Great School in Virginia Beach
- Asynchronous learning day on Wednesday, Feb. 19. All after-school activities canceled.
St. Matthew’s School in Virginia Beach
- St. Matthew’s School will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
St. Pius X School in Norfolk
- St. Pius X Catholic School in Norfolk will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Star of the Sea Catholic School in Virginia Beach
- Asynchronous learning day on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Stonebridge School in Chesapeake
- Closed Wednesday, Feb. 19.
Suffolk Public Schools
- Suffolk Public Schools announced asynchronous learning days on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 20. Schools are closed.
Virginia Beach City Public Schools
- Students in Virginia Beach Public Schools will have an asynchronous learning day on Wednesday, Feb. 19. All school buildings and administrative offices will be closed to the public no later than 1 p.m. on Feb. 19. All after-school activities are canceled for Feb. 19. No-cost meals will be available for all students 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 19, at the following locations: Bayside High, Bayside Middle, Birdneck Elementary, Brookwood Elementary, College Park Elementary, Cooke Elementary, Green Run High, Holland Elementary, Linkhorn Park Elementary, Lynnhaven Elementary, Pembroke Elementary, Rosemont Elementary and Windsor Oaks Elementary
Williamsburg Christian Academy
- Williamsburg Christian Academy will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
York County Public Schools
- Remote learning day on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
