Afternoon Update: Widespread Light Snowfall

Brought to you by Bill Oosterink, Realtor

Our system is beginning to take shape off of the southeast coast this afternoon. This system is throwing a decent bit of moisture back toward the coast, with cold air settling in. As expected, we are seeing the heaviest snow bands develop across southern Virginia.

Southern MD and Central VA continue to set right on the edge of the precip field. With that said, we saw light snow break out around 10/11am. Off and on snow showers have continued into the afternoon. Several spots in the Shenandoah Valley, where the snow is cutting off, picked up 1-2″ this morning.

Our Cedar Point Federal Credit Union Futurview shows that periods of snow are likely to continue into the evening. These will be focused to the south. However, travel impacts are possible as road accumulations have begun.

We are still on track to see a general 1-3″ of snow, with the highest totals south of the Benedict Bridge. Parts of southern St. Mary’s County and the Northern Neck could see up to 3″. Northern spots, like Chesapeake Beach and Annapolis, may pick up close to an inch.

All in all, we continue to expect impacts through the night that are likely to linger into tomorrow. While these will not be high, they may be enough to cause problems for those traveling, especially with another round of light snow showers possible Thursday morning. I will have school odds for Thursday posted later this afternoon, but closures may be warranted.
