Police pursuit started in N.C., ended with an arrest in Chesapeake

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A man was arrested after a police chase in Currituck County Friday morning, according to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 8:15 a.m., deputies attempted to stop an Acura sedan that was traveling southbound near the Barco area on Hwy. 158 in a reckless manner due to a high rate of speed, the sheriff’s office said. A pursuit began after it said the driver refused to stop.

However, the driver briefly escaped after he made an abrupt U-turn on started traveling north into Virginia, the sheriff’s office said, and due to the road conditions, the pursuit was terminated and picked by up by the Chesapeake Police Department, who caught the driver.

The driver, Travis Reed Darden, 36, of Chesapeake, was arrested without incident and charged with speeding, felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, failing to heed lights and siren, reckless driving to endanger and failing to stop at a red light…
