Five months after Helene: NASCAR’s impact on flood relief still felt in Appalachia

CONCORD, N.C. (WCYB) — As the region marks five months since Hurricane Helene devastated parts of East Tennessee, Western North Carolina, and Southwest Virginia, the NASCAR community continues to play a pivotal role in recovery efforts.

Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle was among the first to respond when Helene’s floodwaters isolated many small communities.

“I thought if I don’t put my tools down and go to the airport and try to get them, who will,” Biffle said.
