Legislation may transform vacant properties, starting with Virginia Intermont campus

BRISTOL, Va (WCYB) — The former Virginia Intermont College campus which used to be vibrant and full of life but is now a deteriorating landmark. This is why city officials and local legislators are trying to push a law that could impact the future of this historic site.

It does allow a mechanism for a better use for that property rather than just sitting there blighted and vacant and being run down and now very dangerous, said Israel O’Quinn, Virginia State Delegate, 44th District.

The proposed legislation is called the Blighted Property Bill, essentially it lets city officials in Virginia take control of what happens to properties that are in disrepair and abandoned…
