NORFOLK, Va. — As spring brings warmer temperatures, allergies worsen, including mold sensitivities.
Rudy is a one-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a special talent—he’s trained to find mold in places that humans might miss. Rudy is the nose behind Mold Dog of Virginia, based in Norfolk.
“We’re constantly training so his nose stays calibrated to mold,” said Lacey Lee, Rudy’s owner and Mold Dog of Virginia founder. Rudy’s training allows him to detect mold that is often invisible to the human eye. “Most mold is microscopic, so us humans can’t even see it. What we’re seeing lots of times is actually water damage,” Lacey explained…
