Rabies exposure reported in Chesapeake, third in month of March

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A rabid cat was recently found near Western Branch Park, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

A release states that on March 17, a local resident discovered the cat underneath a shed on River Pearl Way. The resident then brought the cat back to her house, where the cat proceeded to bite her. Officials said this is the third rabies exposure in Chesapeake in the month of March.

The cat, who was euthanized, ended up testing positve for rabies. The person who was bit is now undergoing post-exposure medical attention…
