Portsmouth Fire Rescue assists with overturned vessel near City Park

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A person had to be evaluated for possible hypothermia after a sailing vessel overturned near Portsmouth City Park Saturday afternoon.

According to officials, just after 1 p.m., crews were dispatched to the Western Branch aresa of the Elizabeth River for reports of a swimmer in distress.

Crews arrived to the scene and found two people in the water next to an overturned sailing vessel. The pair were said to be in shallow water attempting to bring the vessel back to the shore…
