Man sentenced to over 6 years after firing gun near Portsmouth high school

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A Chesapeake man was sentenced on Tuesday to over six years in prison for several offenses, including opening fire near a Portsmouth high school.

According to officials, on May 28, 2024, Portsmouth Police Chief Stephen Jenkins was in the area of I.C. Norcom High School when he heard multiple gunshots. Jenkins then saw 39-year-old Cedrick William Davis firing the gun in the air.

After Jenkins ran towards Davis while giving verbal commands, Davis entered a vehicle and drove towards Jenkins before eventually pulling away and fleeing the scene.

Eventually, investigators were able to locate Davis’ vehicle several blocks away and observed him entering and exiting his apartment. Davis was then arrested…
